Ingredients

• Fresh cherries - 2 cups, pitted and chopped
• Granulated sugar - ¾ cup
• Heavy cream - 1 cup
• Whole milk - 1 cup
• Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
• Salt - ¼ teaspoon

Instructions

   In a medium saucepan, combine cherries and 1/4 cup of sugar. Cook over medium heat until cherries are soft and syrupy, about 10 minutes. Let cool.

   In a mixing bowl, whisk together remaining sugar, heavy cream, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar is dissolved.

   Stir the cooled cherry mixture into the cream mixture.

   Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions.

   Transfer to a lidded container and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.
